Room For Rent
A tale of delicious domestic denial...
On Tuesday evening I was stretched out on top of my bed, the plastic fan whirring near the window doing a poor job of cooling me down. My T-shirt was just long enough to cover my hips, and I hadn’t bothered with panties. After all, I still lived alone at that point…
“I swear,” I muttered, turning onto my side and curling my fingers under my cheek. “Trying to find a roommate is way harder than it should be.”
The apartment was silent except for the hum of my phone pressed against my ear. From somewhere deep within the soft static came the low, sleepy voice of Liv. “Still no luck?”
“Honestly…you wouldn’t believe some of the emails I’ve gotten since I put up the flier…”
“Like what?” Liv said, her voice perking a little. “Gimme the drama.”
“Well…there was the dude who told me that he only eats raw liver because he’s living an ancestral lifestyle.”
“Ew.”
“And a woman who said she could be kind of a bitch whenever Mercury is in retrograde. Which I looked up, and, let me tell you, Mercury is in retrograde a lot.”
Liv chuckled. “That bad, huh?”
“Yup. There was one guy I actually met up with–in a crowded place, don’t worry–and he spent the entire time lecturing me on how much society should respect women for more than just their bodies…while openly staring at my tits.”
“I mean, he has got a point,” she said. “And you do have excellent tits. I’d be staring, too.”
I sighed, throwing myself back on the bed dramatically, my T-shirt riding higher up my hips. “Whatever. Maybe I’m the problem…” I lay on my back and stared up at the ceiling, opening my legs a little. “Do I give off weird energy?”
“Yup.” She yawned into the speaker. I could hear fabric rustling; she was probably curled up on her couch in one of those oversized sweaters, legs tucked under her, glass of wine in hand. “But anyone would be lucky to have you.”
“Thanks, bitch.”
“Anytime, slut.”
I smiled. Even now, with our lives split between different apartments in different cities, she was the first person I called when I needed to vent. We’d survived the chaos of college together, the breakups, the shitty jobs, all of it.
“So what are you gonna do?” Liv asked as she put something in her mouth and crunched down on it. I listened to her chew for a moment.
“Ah, I don’t know. Keep interviewing, I guess.” I rolled onto my side, the cool air hitting the back of my legs as the fan continued to oscillate with a gentle hum. “There’s the financial thing, obviously, but I guess I’m also kinda lonely since you moved out. I’m happy for you and Brian, don’t get me wrong! I just miss having someone to play video games with and eat snacks and laugh at bad movies.”
“Maybe you need a boyfriend.”
“Ew.” I rolled onto my front again, the T-shirt bunching up under my ribs, my naked ass exposed to the room. “Sex would be nice. But having a boyfriend is boring.”
“Mmm,” Liv said, the audience of whatever TV show she had on in the background erupting into applause. “I can assure you that the stuff me and Brian get up to in the bedroom is not boring.”
“Hey!” I said, mock-offended. “Just because you’re having great sex. No need to rub it in!”
“You started it.”
“True.” I lifted my hips slightly, held them for a moment to feel the stretch in my thighs, and then let myself drop down onto the bed, the recoil moving through my body, my breasts bouncing and my ass rippling as it pressed into the mattress. Looking at my figure, I ruminated on what an absolute crime it was that I hadn’t been fucked for a very long time. A body like this deserved to be enjoyed. I sighed. “What I really want, I guess, if I could have anything, is a really nice geeky guy who pays the rent on time and lets me use his cock for my own personal satisfaction.”
“Sarah!”
Liv laughed, and so did I.
But it turns out I wasn’t joking.
Not even a little bit.
The next day, I received an email.
